America’s symbol of freedom and hope. A piece of the original metal that was removed from the actual Statue of Liberty during reconstruction and flown on board the April 1985 flight of the Space Shuttle Discovery, is hand mounted on the watch dial.

The statue is a figure of Libertas, a robed Roman liberty goddess. She holds a torch above her head with her right hand, and in her left-hand carries a tabula ansata inscribed JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776, in Roman numerals), the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

Vaucanson has obtained authentic copper from the centennial restoration and flown on board the April 1985 flight of the Space Shuttle Discovery. A piece of authentic space-flown copper from the actual Statue of Liberty* is mounted on the dial at the 6 O’clock position.
